“Gear Lab” Young Engineers Kit – Wooden Gear Set for Kids (10+)
45,00 €
“Gear Lab” is an interactive wooden toy and a mini mechanics lab for children (recommended from age 10). On a 30 × 30 cm wooden board, children arrange the gears themselves, connect them into a single rotating mechanism and observe rotation speed and direction. Through this hands-on learning, children explore how real mechanisms work – bicycles, clocks, machines.
An educational resource that complements maths games, physics tasks, STEM and Montessori-style independent exploration. It works for one-to-one learning at home or as a classroom teaching resource.
Looking for a practical gift for a classroom or a science room? It also makes a great gift for teachers (primary, maths or physics).
The set includes a wooden board, 7 wooden gears, a set of axles, number tokens for marking rotation speed and an instruction sheet with 8 challenges – ready-made for a lesson plan or independent exploration.
✔ Made in Lithuania.
✔ CE marked – safe for children, compliant with EU safety standards.

Description
Wooden gear set – a mechanics lab for young engineers
“Gear Lab” turns abstract principles of mechanics into a clear, hands-on experience. Instead of only looking at diagrams in a textbook, pupils “assemble” the gears on a purpose-made board, turn the wheels, mark the rotation speed and see how gears really work. It is one of those educational toys that belong among logic games: you can try, make mistakes, rearrange the parts and finally find the solution.
What children will learn:
- how gears transmit motion;
- how gears change rotation speed (faster / slower);
- how the direction of rotation changes when different gears are connected;
- what a compound gear is (2 gears on the same axle);
- how gear ratios are calculated (maths applied to real life);
- how mechanics connects to the real world (how bicycles, clocks, tools and machines work).
More than a wooden toy – a complete learning resource for when you want to “touch” the formulas.
For children and teenagers (recommended from age 10)
Ideal for curious children who love building, solving problems and creating mechanisms. An interactive toy that encourages independent exploration. Young engineers learn by doing: they place gears on the board, create different combinations, change gear sizes and see the result instantly. Mistakes are part of the process: take it apart, rearrange it and try turning the mechanism again until it works the way the task requires – or the way they imagined.
For teachers and home learning
A strong resource for physics and maths topics. The set is easy to use in lessons, for tutoring, in STEM clubs and for one-to-one learning at home. It also works well as a school resource when a clear class demonstration is needed.
The set comes with an instruction sheet: clear explanations of how gears work, plus 8 ready-made challenges with answers – a great ready-to-use lesson plan for teachers and for independent learning.
For hobbyists, makers and curious adults
Great for workshops, engineering clubs, educational events or simply as a demonstration piece. A fun, tactile way to explain – to yourself or others – how mechanisms work.
The set includes:
- 1 wooden base board with holes for axles, 30 × 30 cm
- 7 wooden gears (various sizes – 10, 20, 24 and 30 teeth)
- 10 sturdy black axles / pegs for attaching the gears to the board
- 10 wooden number tokens for marking rotation speed
- Instruction sheet with 8 practical challenges and answers
Materials and quality
- Made from sturdy birch plywood, laser-cut and finished by hand
- Coated with a child-safe protective finish that keeps the natural look and feel of the wood
- Axles are sturdy and designed for repeated use
- Every set is slightly unique: the wood grain and shades may vary slightly – this gives the product its own character
Recommended age: 10+.
Suitable for older children, teenagers and adults.
⚠️ Warning: not suitable for children under 3 due to small parts.
