Description
A geometry illusion that makes you ask: “where does the gap come from?”
The Missing Square, also known as Curry’s triangle paradox, is an optical and mathematical illusion you can actually handle. Put the pieces together one way and you get a “full” triangle; rearrange them and an empty space appears. It looks as if area disappears or appears out of nowhere.
It is both a wooden puzzle and a maths brain teaser – a great resource for hands-on learning, where you don’t just read the theory but test, build and analyse angles and proportions yourself.
What does this puzzle develop?
- Spatial thinking and visual analysis.
- Logical reasoning (“what changed if the pieces are the same?”).
- Understanding of geometry: angles, proportions, the “almost straight line” effect.
- Curiosity – it can surprise and spark questions in a maths lesson.
Who is it for?
- Children (6+) in primary school (educational yet engaging).
- Teachers, as a visual teaching resource for geometry topics.
- Montessori-style activities and visual learning.
- Brain breaks in the classroom or the office.
- A unique gift for teachers and fans of maths and logic games.
